The Narendra Modi government has created a new Ministry of Cooperation with an aim to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country, but this has ruffled many feathers, Opposition Political Parties are going to raise the issue in the coming Monsoon Session !
Opposition leaders say the move is to “hijack the cooperative movement” that currently falls under the State governments, under entry 32 of the State list under the Schedule 7 of the Constitution and believe that BJP wants a total control of the cooperative movement across the country and that’s why they have made Amit Shah in charge of the Ministry.
The cooperative model has been a source of political power in States such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal many of these cash rich cooperatives are controlled by Opposition parties such as the Nationalist Congress Party, CPI(M) and the Congress in some of these States.
The new Cooperative Ministry and the Cooperative Minister Amit Shah’s name has already sent shivers across the opposition as Amit Shah is a experienced and known name for the Co-operative Sector with a experience of 4 decades in it and the fear is Amit shah as a Co-operative Minsiter will slowly and steadily target the sector which is manipulated by most parties for their benefit by oppression and suppression of the poor.
On the other hand it will turn out as a boon for any sector’s including Farmer’s,if Farmers themselves form a co-operative Society the middle men will be cut off and the commission’s earned by these middle men will directly benefit the farmers themselves ! and that is something what the Arthiya dependent Political parties and leaders fear, loss of control on their cash minting machines.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hit the Nail on the head, a growing grass roots cooperative sector, facilitated by the Central government, would uproot some political monopolies, which will completely erode the base of these Political families who govern not only these institutions but also keep their Vote bank pulled towards their parties as loyalty.
The growth of the Cooperative sector will benefit Farmer’s & Service Sector enormously, which is why the opposition will cry foul on this new Ministry & the Minister.
